As the implementing agency and programme management unit, RISP oversees the operations of the Northern Cape Innovation Forum (NCIF). It provides strategic direction, and administrative support, and facilitates collaboration among stakeholders to promote innovation and economic development in the Northern Cape region.

The Regional Innovation Support Programme (RISP) is an initiative by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) aimed at strengthening and developing regional and local innovation systems in South Africa. Managed by a Programme Management Unit (PMU) within the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), RISP creates an enabling environment for technology Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) and innovators to actively participate in the knowledge economy.
